Blue Mountains

The beautiful Blue Mountains in the west of Sydney is named for the shimmering blue heat haze caused by evaporating eucalyptus oil and is a prime location for both recreation and leisure.

Just a quick 60 kilometre journey west from the hustle and bustle of metropolitan Sydney, the area boasts breath-taking scenery, an array of bush-walking tracks (42 of them to be exact!), brilliant accommodation and mouth-watering fine dining.

With so much do, it's always tough finding the perfect place to kick-off the explorations but having said that, you just have to visit the Three Sisters, a trio of rock formations at Echo Point sooner or later and in most cases, it's the first point of call for visiting tourists and here's why.

This iconic scenic lookout offers jaw-dropping views over the Jamieson Valley and it's hard to argue against the opinion that this particular scenic point offers the best and most memorable insight into what makes the Blue Mountains so special.

Scenic World Blue Mountains

Another way to explore the area and its beautiful scenery is at Scenic World. It is well and truly the ultimate Blue Mountains experience and features the world's steepest railway, plunging some 545 metres into a rainforest as well as a scenic skyway, cableway, and walkway!

And speaking of walkways, the area's bush-walking tracks is one of its biggest attractions with the National Pass at Wentworth Falls - a four-hour circuit - being one of the best known trails.

Don't forget to pay the markets a visit either. Usually held on weekends, the markets provide a fantastic opportunity to sample local lifestyle including foods, arts and crafts.

For those that are after a culinary adventure as much as an adventurous one, fine dining can be found in many locations such as Cliff Drive, Leura Mall, Blackheath and Katoomba.

With so much to do and see, it really is no wonder why so many thousands of visitors make the short journey to the Blue Mountains from Sydney every year!
