Byron Bay for Blues and Roots

April 3rd 2007 12:34
I've never been to the East Coast Blues and Roots Festival in the Northern NSW town of Byron Bay, despite all the good acts they tend to host. The bands I want to see, more often than not, play sideshows in Sydney. I can understand why people do head up to Byron for this festival however, as Byron is a great location for the event.

At this late stage, if you want to stay there Belongil Camping and Cabins is probably your best bet. I'm sure many just pitch a tent where they can however. If you are considering heading next year, or to Byron in a non-peak time there heaps of options at all levels of style. Byron is no longer the sleepy little town it once was.

Looking at the ticket availability and I am surprised to find that tickets to the event are pretty much sold out. There are only tickets left for the Thursday. Of course, being in this great nation of opportunism, there will no doubt be scalpers about to flog you a ticket.

And if you can't get a ticket, but heading along anyway, why not just hit the beach - it is still warm enough in Northern NSW and will be for some time I'd imagine.

why do you say that byron is such a good place for this event? why not any place? i think it would sell out in sydney just as easily as up there, but probably have less hippys about the place. hippys dont know how to appreciate good music, or worse they over-appreciate shit music by closing their eyes, waving their arms about & swaying around in circles. in fact, they ruin the concept of peace altogether for me.

this turned into a rant about hippies. apologies.

Many are bothered by their attendance, so it is a good place. It can sell out without needing me to go up there and I still get to see the acts I want to. Win win.
