Dunk Island

The beautiful tropical rainforest that is Dunk Island, located off the north Queensland coast at Mission Beach, is known as the isle of peace and plenty. As part of the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area, the island is a popular retreat (mostly for couples) due to its climate, palm-fringed beaches, lush rainforests and an abundance of amazing activities to pursue.

Dunk Island has a tropical climate with average year-round temperatures of around 29 degrees Celsius. Temperatures between the months of November and March are typically the warmest at around 31 degrees Celsius with July being the coldest month of the year with an average temperature of 25 degrees Celsius.

Visitors are spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing an activity with horse-riding along the beach, rainforest walks, catamarans, tandem sky diving, golf, tennis, kayaking and squash all on offer. For sightseeing or wildlife spotting, you will be pleased to know that the island boasts over 100 species of birds including rare and vulnerable seabirds, reptiles such as pythons and tree snakes and plenty of marine life including sea turtles and corals.

For those that enjoy their walking, Dunk Island has thirteen kilometres of walking tracks, both short and long, spread over five main routes. A typical short walk would be from the island to Edmund James Banfield's grave and a long walk around the island circuit can take up to 4 hours.

The resort on the island is run by Voyages with beautiful beachfront suites, beachfront rooms and garden rooms to choose from. The beachfront suites are a delight and offers virtually uninterrupted views over Brammo Bay with direct access to the beach.

Dining at the resort is varied with a selection of restaurants, cafes and bars to choose from and perfect for those that want to grab a quick bite or drink in between rounds of golf on the resort's own 9 hole golf course.
