The City of Glenorchy in Tasmania, nestled between Mt Wellington and the Derwent River, boasts a rich indigenous heritage and has been inhabited by the Aborigines for over 40,000 years.
Today, this multicutural city is an important economic centre of Tasmania and its fourth largest city with a population of around 40,000 people. It is also a popular tourist destination with visitors from around the world flocking to this beautiful city in search of both natural and culinary delights.
This great family destination offers many things to do with a whole heap of attractions, entertainment and activities such as a world class mountain bike park, an intercity cycleway, three codes of horse and greyhound racing, wineries and chocolate factories - there truly is something for everybody.
The popular Moorilla Estate Winery, Restaurant and Museum of Antiquities is a popular attraction and pioneering Tasmanian vineyard established in 1958 and famous for producing cool climate multi-award winning wines with a range of wine tastings and tours available.
The previously mentioned Glenorchy Mountain Bike Park located in the Wellington Ranges above Tolosa Park, caters for a variety of riding styles that range from extreme technical trails, dirt jumps, an international standard 4X track, and cross-country circuits.
For those that enjoy sightseeing, the Tasmanian Transport Museum on Anfield Street is a must-see. On display at the museum is a collection of historic Tasmanian Transport including railway locomotives, electric trams, motor buses, fire engines and other road vehicles.
Glenorchy has a mild temperate oceanic climate with four distinct seasons.
