Gold Coast - one of the world's best holiday destinations

January 3rd 2008 23:45
Gold Coast

The Gold Coast, located in the south-east corner of Queensland, is one of Australia's most popular tourist destinations.

Located 80km from the Queensland state capital of Brisbane, the city is renowned for its glorious sunshine, picture perfect beaches and glitzy nightlife, and is seldom identified as one of the most desirable places in the world to live ranked on political, social, economic and environmental factors, personal safety and health.

Gold Coast beaches

Boasting a subtropical climate with an average water temperature of 22 degrees and a coastline that stretches 70 kilometres, the city is a haven for surfers with some of the most popular surf breaks in Australia including: South Stradbroke Island, The Spit, Main Beach, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Mermaid Beach, Nobby Beach, Miami, Burleigh Beach, Burleigh Heads, Tallebudgera Beach, Palm Beach, Curruminbin Beach, Tugun, Bilinga, Kirra, Coolangatta, Greenmount, Rainbow Bay, Snapper Rocks and Froggies Beach.

These beaches are patrolled by the largest professional life guard service in Australia.

Gold Coast Dream World

Another major drawcard for the city its high number of themed attractions (largest concentration in the southern hemisphere) which includes Currumbin Sanctuary, Dreamworld, Fleays Wildlife Park, Movie World, Paradise Country, Sea World, Wet'n'Wild Water World and WhiteWater World.

Also, the fact that some of Australia’s largest duty free outlets and shopping centres are located in Gold Coast makes it the perfect destination for shoppers and tourists alike.

Gold Coast Sea World

One of the Gold Coast's most famous annual events is the Lexmark Indy 300 car racing event. Held in October, the course ventures through the streets of Surfers Paradise and Main Beach thus showcasing the city to tens of millions of television viewers worldwide.

The city is also home to lush green rainforests, world-class golfing greens and exclusive 5-star hotels and resorts making the Gold Coast a dream holiday destination.

And apparently a great place to live as well according to some of my friends who have recently "migrated" (but then of course, you would need to live outside the touristy areas to avoid mess and crowd!)
