Heron Island, located right on the world famous Great Barrier Reef in sunshine Queensland, is a true coral cay and one of Australia's most popular holiday destinations.
A dream destination for outdoor lovers, the island is one of the few places in the world where you can swim straight off the beach to an endless garden of coral where the waters are teeming with fish and marine life. Spectacular!
The island has an area of roughly 16 hectares (800 metres long; 300 metres wide) and boasts a warm tropical climate with temperatures hovering around the 27 degrees Celsius mark all-year round - the hottest months are December, January and February.
Most famous for its fantastic scuba diving and snorkelling than anything else, some of Australia's best dive spots are located on or around the island with more than 30 dive sites - half of which are only 15 minutes from the beach - to choose from.
A stunning array of animal life can be discovered throughout the year including green and loggerhead turtles plus an abundance of seabirds - Northern Silver Gull, Australian Buff-banded Rail, Grey-breasted Silvereye etc. - nestling within the rich forests of Pisonia and fauna
The resort on the island is run by Voyages with beautiful beach houses, Point Suites, Beachside Suites, Wistari Suites, Reef and Turtle Suites to choose from. The Point Suites are a delight with an outlook that offers uninterrupted reef views and magical sunsets over the Great Barrier Reef.
