Hervey Bay, the whale watching capital of Australia, is a dynamic coastal centre roughly three and a half hours drive from Brisbane in the northern region of sunny Queensland.
The city of approximately 52,000 people is renowned for its beautiful environment and natural features and is blessed with an idyllic sub-tropical climate - summer and winter maximum temperatures of 29 and 22 degrees Celsius respectively - making it a perfect destination for an adventurous lifestyle holiday.
Often described as the 'crown jewel' of Queensland, over a million tourists flock to the city every year to enjoy the cities calm waters, beaches and the annual whale migration which takes place between late July and November every year.
During this time, groups of majestic humpback whales migrate from Antarctic waters to Hervey Bay for calving in between rounds of spectacular displays of tail flapping and pectoral slapping. Other highly recommended activities and places to see includes: Botanic Gardens and Orchid House, Hervey Bay Regional Gallery, cruise the Great Sandy Strait in a Houseboat, skydiving over Hervey Bay from 10,000 feet, and scenic flights over the Bay and Fraser Island in a helicopter.
