Moreton Bay

Moreton Bay and its several islands is Brisbane's own aquatic playground and is located just 20 kilometres from the Queensland capital. The close proximity to Brisbane makes it a popular weekend getaway for locals to escape the daily grind and visiting tourists.
The area boasts a fantastic array of outdoor activities with the Bay itself being the centerpiece of the many exciting things including 4-wheel driving, cycling, diving and snorkelling, sailboating, and sand tobogganing, just to name a few. At nearby North Stradbroke or Moreton Island, other water activities such as sea-kayaking, canoeing and aqua-biking are also available.
For those who wish to take a break from the outdoor activities, the city offers visitors plenty to explore with a great mix of museums and art galleries such as the Redland Art Gallery to sightseeing and exploring the natural wonders of the Bay including its fascinating sea creatures.
Dolphins and Whales are prominent sea creatures in the bay and surrounding waters of the islands and are usually seen all year round. Moreton Bay has one of the largest populations of dugongs, or sea cows, in the world. These marine animals can grow to more than three metres in length and weigh as much as 400 kilograms and are the only marine mammals in Australia that are mainly plant eaters.
