Rockhampton is a beautiful lifestyle city located on Queensland's largest river - the Fitzroy - and lies 40 kilometres inland from the beautiful Capricorn Coast beaches.
The enviable location of the city means that its residents enjoys the best tropical climate Queensland has to offer as well as boasting an abundance of natural beauty. The weather can be extremely hot during the summer months but milder temperatures prevail in winter although the city remains a great holiday destination throughout the year.
Sightseeing tourists will love the beautiful views of the Berserker Ranges and Mount Archer which gulfs the city thus providing a breathtaking backdrop from the city centre.
Rockhampton's must see places are: Rockhampton Showgrounds Complex, Rockhampton Heritage Village, Walter Reid Cultural Centre, Pilbeam Theatre and the Rockhampton Zoo.
The Rockhampton Zoo, in particular, is a great day out for the entire family. Nestled between the Botanic Gardens and Murray Lagoon, the Zoo is the perfect venue for families to see native Australian fauna, as well as some exotic species. The zoo is open every day of the year between 8am and 5pm and, wait for it...entry is completely free!
Budding artists will enjoy a trip to the Rockhampton Art Gallery next to the Pilbeam Theatre which displays works by Australian artists from the 1940s to the 1970s.
The city is also one of the main gateways to the beautiful Great Keppel Island.
