Toowoomba is a beautiful 'Garden City' located in the South East of sunshine Queensland with a population of roughly 95,000 people (Census 2006).
The city is around 700 metres above sea level and is the largest non-coastal city in the state and enjoys four distinct seasons with mean summer and winter temperatures of around 27 and 16 degrees celsius respectively.
Toowoomba boasts an eclectic mix of boutique wineries, stylish cafes, galleries, heritage exhibitions and museums, national parks, antique stores, spectacular lookouts, gracious old hotels and stunning gardens.
The city is perhaps best known for being the host of the Australian Carnival of Flowers. Held in September each year, the Toowoomba/Australian Carnival of Flowers is the country's longest running annual horticultural event and is renowned as a national Spring icon.
Each year, the carnival brings together horticulture, entertainment and gourmet foods in a unique culmination of spring celebrations, horticultural excellence and artistic diversity that remains unrivalled by any other Queensland event.
Other highlights of this event includes the spectacular floral parade and live performances in Queen's Park.
The adventurous traveller will enjoy the city's array of outdoor activities including 4WD tours and skydiving while sight-seers will marvel at Toowoomba's beautiful heritage buildings proudly mixed with modern and dynamic architecture and its internationally themed gardens such as the Japanese Gardens at the University of Southern Queensland and the beautiful mix of flowers at Laurel Bank Park.
